Hillways will be available from 4pm on arrival day and we would ask that you depart by 10am on your last day. (Cottage may be ready earlier - perhaps if you do arrive earlier and it is not yet ready you could try the tea rooms, test the beer or stretch your legs.)

Nearest shop - Muker 3 miles (very small & not always open), Reeth 6 miles, Hawes, Leyburn, Richmond, Catterick or Sainsbury and Tesco deliver to cottage - address Hillways, Gunnerside DL11 6LA
Hawes market day is Tuesday, lovely drive over the Buttertubs Pass, 11 miles. There is a Spar, an upmarket grocer/butchers Elijha Allen, pubs, cafes, post office, library, banks. Wensleydale Cheese Factory, Ropemaker and Dales Centre/Museum
Leyburn market day is Friday, another beautiful drive over Grinton Moor, 14 miles. They have a Co-op, an upmarket grocer/butcher Campbells, and more shops than Hawes
Semer Water, 10 miles, good for watersports.
Great area for cyclying down country lanes, dirt tracks over moors
The Kings Head Pub, 2 mins walk from cottage, serves fine ales and good food (lunch time & evenings). It is great place to mix with the locals, who will welcome you to join in with the fortnightly quiz.
Friday night everyone congregates in the Kings Head, and waits for the fish & chip van to arrive at about 7.15pm
Ghyllfoot Tea Room is not always open due to illness.
Mary Shaw's Cafe open from Easter to October
Locals will welcome you to join in events, such as - film nights, concerts or plays in the village hall, or cream teas, soup & sweet lunches ... all in aid of local causes.
